Wiener Takes All: A Dogumentary at the Alamo

Just in time for the Buda Country Fair and Wiener Dog Races which, this year, is being called WIENERDOG MILLIONAIRE!

Welcome to the world of competitive wiener dogs, a world that boasts healthy dachshunds and rabid owners. Unleash the truth as we track America's sexiest and fastest weenies on the professional dachshund circuit.

Every year, tens of thousands of American dachshund owners enter their dogs in various competitions. Extremely popular, dachshund races routinely bring horse and dog tracks a week's worth of attendance on a single night (in Buda, Texas, almost 20,000 hit the annual races). There's even a national wiener dog racing championships - the Wiener Nationals - that features racing wiener dogs from across the country.

A more high profile type of Dachshund competition is the world of show doxies, where thousands of miles in travel and hundreds of thousands of dollars are required to compete for the spot of "top dog".

In the fall of 2004 documentary filmmaker Shane MacDougall decided to chronicle the surprisingly cut throat world of competitive dachshunds for two years.

The result is WIENER TAKES ALL crisscrosses the continent to get the inside scoop on what makes these champion dogs and their colorful owners tick as we visit dachshund races, hilarious "earthdog" competitions, and the Westminster dog show. Candid interviews with the world's top show dog personalities give us a crash course in wiener dog politics, and a glimpse into the divisive controversies that have long dogged the dachshund community.

Oh my dog photos

Frank Bruynbroek (pronounced Brin-brook) was born in Vilvorde, a small town on the outskirts of Brussels , Belgium . In Belgium he taught mentally handicapped kids, traveled on his motorcycle, turned into a ski instructor, shot weddings, designed light shows, became a casting director, directed commercials, sang back up for a renowned Belgian singer, was the lead in a play...then Belgium became too small. He came to California to study acting and pursue photography. Frank is in the process of producing a book about his favorite subject, dogs and he works relentlessly for the Brittany Foundation, rescuing dogs off the streets.

The flamingos are coming! The flamingos are coming!

flocking_-_photo_1

ARE YOU READY TO FLOCK??? THEY'RE BACK!

For just $50, a flock of 20 pink flamingos will show up in the front yard of your chosen "flockee" (for a $75 donation, get a flock of 40!).

The flamingos will brighten your friend's yard for several days and then migrate to their next destination. If the flockee wants to know who's responsible for the flocking, a $10 donation to the shelter will reveal the secret. Want insurance against your name being revealed? Just add $15 to your initial donation and your secret is safe with us.

Hiring the pink gang is a great way to say Happy Birthday, Happy Easter, Happy Earth Day, or just "Hi" to your animal-loving friends. Flocking began March 28th and continues through May. Flamingos are able to travel throughout the Greater Austin area including Cedar Park, Leander, Georgetown, Pflugerville, and Round Rock, but they won’t be here forever.

Don’t delay, flock today!

Flock a friend or family member before they (the flamingos, that is) fly away! To place your order, call 459-0925 or email at Flocking@CentralTexasSPCA.org This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The flamingos will happily take a check or major credit card. Flamingos like money. Who knew?
